Catherine Allen has been teaching since 2001. Her yoga training background includes Bikram, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Pralaya, and Forrest. She teacher-trained under the tutelage of Robert Boustany and Ana Forrest (Foundational and Advanced) and has studied intensively with Dharmavirsingh Mahida in India. "Yoga makes me feel new and alive. The practice of yoga presents challenges and opportunities that help us unveil our fantastic abilities to heal from illness and self-destruction and to evolve into more joyful, mindful, and compassionate beings."

On-going Public Classes

All classes are open level, slow to moderate pace, and vigorous. Everyone (including beginners) will work strongly and safely. Classes are either pure Forrest or Forrest-inspired and are designed to make you sweat out and strip away stubborn layers of stress that stiffen your mind and body. The combination of strength, flexibility, and breath power you develop through yoga will help you to evolve both on and off the mat. You will play with the edges of your breath and body, make new discoveries about yourself, and leave class feeling completely cleansed and rejuvenated.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are good for students who can't fit public classes in their schedules, have physical conditions that need special attention, want to progress faster, or just prefer the comfort of privacy. Catherine can answer your questions and give you more hands-on adjustments in a private setting. Your lessons can take place in a studio, in your home, or at your office. Yoga at the Workplace

Yoga at the workplace creates a sanctuary for employees to recuperate from the daily stresses of work. The daily confinements to a desk cause undue tension in the neck, shoulders, wrists, and hips. Yoga at the workplace teaches employees stretching techniques that improve circulation and rejuvenate all those bodily areas that are commonly over-stressed from sitting all day. Yoga reduces tension and calms the mind, which in turn promotes good health and high spirits. Healthier employees take less sick days and create a happier and more productive work environment. Catherine recommends either morning or lunchtime yoga classes at the workplace. Email her at catherine [at] yogasublime [dot] com for more info.

What is yoga?

You can google "What is yoga" to get a more thorough and scholastic definition. Here is Catherine's rudimentary answer to start you off...Yoga is an exercise science for the physical body (including brain), the energetic body, and the spirit. In Catherine's classes you practice asana (yoga poses) and pranayama (breath control). The combination of stretch, strength, and breath clears the body of emotional and physical trauma and heightens your love for living and learning.

Should I do my weight-/cardio-training before or after yoga?

Yoga stretches and balance your body. Most forms of modern exercise only work a limited number of muscle groups and are relatively imbalancing. So do your lifting, then come to yoga class.

Do I have to be flexible?

Absolutely not. Yoga isn't about putting your foot behind your head or doing the splits. The abilities to follow directions and breathe are more than sufficient to get your started. See you in class!

What should I wear and bring to class?

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move and breathe freely. Don't wear jeans, baggy clothes, or see-through material. Yoga is done in bare feet. Bring a mat, block, strap and water.
